starting now, i have three weeks of sitting on my ass to look forward to, so there's going to be plenty of degeneracy to go around for a while. yay? anyway, let's do this shit.
after modifying the death code to give corpses the same fluff and mane sprites as living fluffies, i started fucking around, because that's what i do. i gave the fluffies size and height variables, but i'm 98% sure i overdid it.
during the test run where the sizes were less fucked up, i made a cannibal farm, as i usually do. five breeding mares were more than enough to feed all the cannibals, and i should probably nerf cannibalism even harder because of how many foals are born at a time, or at least make mares eat more while pregnant.
this is vernon, a cannibal i grew particularly attached to after allowing him to repeatedly rape a pink and green mare while all the others watched. now that i think about it, there's a significant chance that she was his daughter, but it's not like he had the capability to know or care. anyway, vernon is dead, because my mouse slipped and i killed him by accident. rest in peace, if you can seriously say that in reference to an unfinished biotoy who happens to be an abusive rapist.
while i was messing around with rape, i thought about reactions to it. right now, regardless of morality, all nearby fluffies will attack a fluffy who rapes another. quick fix: now, only fluffies with over 60 morality will attack, 50 if the rapist just raped a chirpie to death. on a completely unrelated note...
this is pancake.
moving pancake without killing him is hard. this concludes this session of shameless hacking.
after some more fucking around with breeding farms, i decided to add a new variable. this new variable will freeze the state of a fluffy when set, so speech and facial expressions will still be applied, but the fluffy won't alter its behavior in any other way. good for mares in labor! this will fix the bug where the ai decides that screaming about random shit takes priority over giving birth. although the mares initially gave birth rapidly after i implemented the fix, i fixed it by adding a variable to the event function, allowing certain events, such as returning to the general labor state after delivering a foal, to take place regardless of whether the fluffy is frozen.
after fucking around a little more, i decided to do this, the fluffies i selected happening to be short and wide, which made them look really stupid. while the falling animation looks relatively stable here, the system is approximately ten different kinds of fucked, and i want to fix it, but i'm too tired to keep going tonight.
i'm reasonably satisfied with most of what i just did, but height is a little more ambiguous, mostly because short fluffies in particular look like actual ass. should i keep it in or scrap it?

Nice, love the falling animation. I'd personally put a pin in the size/height thing. Mainly because, from what I've seen with these kinds of sims, different sizes tend to need their own custom sprites to not glitch the fuck out or look like a mess.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P, Pancake and Vernon
honestly, the sprites already look like a mess, because all of the animations rely on rotating them and generally doing a bunch of weird shit to them, and your argument could also apply to foal growth. now that i've slept, i'm just going to scrap height entirely. size is probably staying, though, because the scaling there is proportional.
DeleteWhen it comes to crafts, I like the concept of keep what works and hold what doesn't. Then scrap what you're holding if it's too much work for the moment.
DeleteSize hasn't caused issues so far with their growth stage, from what I've seen.
