i can't think of anything else for this game besides a naming system, a title screen and a user interface that doesn't look like ass. the names have the least drawing involved, so that's what i'm going to do. the first thing i did was add another mode functionality to my player control script. now, in addition to the standard buttons, there's a new feature, identification. it'll be represented by a magnifying glass in the final release of v0.2, which should be arriving soon.
see the new button at the bottom? the identification button exists and sets a new mode, but that new mode doesn't do anything right now. let's fix that. i quickly managed to get the thing up and running, if bringing up some classy placeholder text that can't be closed ever again counts as 'up and running'.
it's pretty simple from this point onward. all i have to do is make it display the fluffy's relevant variables and let the player edit and save some stuff, specifically the fluffy's name and the contents of that big-ass box that's taking up three quarters of the window. seems simple enough, and it is. then, i add a little variable that'll keep controls from activating while the player is editing fluffy info and allow the player to close the stats menu with the escape key.
soon enough, i had a working menu that allowed the player to see a fluffy's sex, age, name, and description instead of repeatedly telling them to get fucked, which is important, because the only way to tell a fluffy's age before the creation of this thing was to let it grow up to adulthood and see whether it fucked or got fucked. of course, the first thing i did with this was give terrible names to my fluffies.
meet dicc, who is very purple, and tiddy, who is only alive because i haven't added alicorn deformations. this pair is probably going to produce at least one alicorn, because dicc also has the gene, although he only has one copy of it, so his existence isn't a paradox. he's not a rapist, so after he grew up and got tiddy pregnant, i let him stay with her. naturally, he was miserable due to the lack of special huggies, running around like a madman and yelling about wanting special huggies throughout the pregnancy.
then, i discovered a bug, because while dicc was respectful during tiddy's pregnancy, he immediately raped and killed the alicorn she gave birth to. as punishment, i locked him in a tiny cell for the rest of his life. there was another alicorn in tiddy's next litter, causing the entire family to panic. interestingly, this alicorn was nearly identical in appearance to his sister. after putting the foal in his own room, i ended the simulation, because i let dicc starve to death by accident, and also because i needed to work on the game.
the rapist bug was caused by god only fucking knows what, but i fixed it. then, i got to work on making fluffies refer to themselves by name, which basically amounted to going into the code and finding every instance of a fluffy referring to itself and replacing it with an automatically fucked up version of its name. i also added a check that would make unnamed fluffies keep being referred to as "fwuffy" or "fwend" or whatever the fluffy in question felt like using.
it's tedious as hell. but it works.
