eating and shitting and fucking the same way we always do except now it's raining
falling animation update: you can now do basically whatever you want to fluffies with only minimal fuckery. falling is officially stable until something comes along and fucks it up. amazingly, that one breeding farm setup with the foals falling down a hole still works.

a bunch of other shit that i won't talk about unless i actually get around to implementing it.
each season lasts three in-game days and affects different things. there are more flowers and hallucinogens in spring, more berries in summer, more mushrooms and toxic plants in fall, and more grass in winter. plant growth rates increase during spring and decrease during winter. there's a chance of rain every day, snow during the winter. the game also has new, original music for each season, so you're still stuck listening to actual shit while you drop newborn fillies into pits full of horny stallions, but it's not the first ten notes of the my little pony intro played on repeat anymore.
after implementing the different plant spawn rates, peak sun heights, and different day lengths, i fucked around all day, which explains yesterday's lack of autistic rambling. then, after i was done fucking around all day, i came back to the game knowing that i was too tired to actually get anything done and went to sleep after playing with some ideas for today:
-independence stat, determines whether dialogue suggests begging, like regular fluffies, or searching, like a less insane version of cannibals
-fix starving cannibal food seeking behavior
-trust stat, affects dialogue directed at player, potentially have fluffies with low trust actively avoid the camera
-actually implement the weather and music changes
-hair genetics
-something really fucking big that i won't spoil until i get around to making it
the next morning, i rolled off my lazy ass and then right back onto it as i found myself with a prominent enough lack of a life to work on this shit first thing in the morning. all of these ideas seem pretty easy except the building, so i'll do that last. maybe even save it for its own post. i'll probably do that.
the first thing i'm going to do is fix starving cannibal ai. they're supposed to seek regular food when desperate, just like normal fluffies do with corpses, but they don't actually do that, they just run around and starve. the first thing i did was replace all instances of checking the cannibalism variable with checking a second variable that is set to true at 100 cannibalism and false at 0 cannibalism. along the way, i discovered that fluffies don't refer to a fluffy who has just been murdered by name, instead calling them 'fwend' regardless of what their actual name is. i fixed that and moved on.
as i was adjusting all my code to use the new variable, i discovered the problem. starving cannibals were programmed to seek food after searching for corpses instead of after searching for fluffies, making the code unreachable. i also fixed a bug where a fluffy with maximum morality would never make any cannibalism progress. now, it's just really hard to train them. after i did that, i started a simulation and spawned a fluffy. after cranking up the cannibalism and cranking down the morality, i fucked up its hunger and made it eat every plant that grew nearby.
my tester's cannibalism decreased just as a regular fluffy's would increase when eating a corpse, with the morality multiplier inverted so that higher morality meant more of a loss. i spawned a fuckload of fluffies after that and observed the resulting rape orgy for about five minutes, testing some new camera limits i added in to prevent the camera from going out of bounds when the game lagged before shutting the whole thing down. then, it was weather time.
first, i disabled the rain, which had been there all the time ever since i added it in. then, in the day cycle script, i added some randomness. every day, there would be a 33% chance of rain, unless it was winter, in which case it would snow every day. weather effects started at sunrise and ended at sunset, with a somewhat smooth transition. pretty neat, but it does jack shit besides looking pretty neat. nobody cares, let's do music.
i made a new script and put in a transition function where the music fades out and a new track plays based on a string parameter. then, i put that script in with the music and made the day script trigger it when the season changed. boom, done. now you can actually tell what season it is.
to celebrate the addition of shitty effects, i made a cannibal farm, which is the same thing i always do.
